Congressman Mike Castle to Address 2010 CHEA Annual Conference

Washington, DC – Congressman Mike Castle (R-Delaware) will address the Council for Higher Education Accreditation´s 2010 Annual Conference. His remarks will be delivered at a session scheduled for 9:00-10:00 am on January 27 at the Marriott Hotel Washington in Washington, DC, where CHEA´s Annual Conference will be held.
A former two-term Governor of Delaware, Congressman Castle is currently serving a record ninth term as Delaware´s lone member in the U.S. House of Representatives. He serves on the Education and Labor Committee and is Ranking Member on the Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary and Secondary Education. He also serves on the House Committee on Financial Services
Congressman Castle is a strong advocate for U.S. education, and has worked to protect funding for education programs and initiatives. His priorities also include the recruitment of highly qualified teachers, as well as efforts to address the economic challenges facing the United States. Additionally, Congressman Castle has focused on the issue of degree mills since 2004, and he chaired a subcommittee that held hearings on degree mills in the United States and efforts to combat them.

"He plays an important role in federal oversight of the laws and regulations governing higher education and accreditation. He are eager to hear from him on the opportunities and the challenges ahead for accreditation."
CHEA´s 2010 Annual Conference will be held January 25-28. Plenary and concurrent sessions will explore topics including quality and accountability, federal policy and accreditation and the growing use of ranking systems. The conference also will feature the presentation of the 2010 CHEA Award for Outstanding Institutional Practice in Student Learning Outcomes.
