TU College of Law student wins nationally competitive Shannon Bybee writing contest

For the second straight year, a student from The University of Tulsa College of Law has won one of two nationally competitive Shannon Bybee Scholarship Awards from the International Association of Gaming Advisors.
Ross Crutchfield, a third-year law student from Hulbert, Okla., submitted the paper entitled "Folding a Losing Hand – Why Congress Should Replace the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act with a Regulatory Scheme," to the national writing contest. The IAGA recognizes two Shannon Bybee Scholarship Award winners each year for the best research papers written during the academic year by students of accredited law schools as part of their class work.
The award includes a $2,500 cash prize. This year´s other recipient was from the William S. Boyd School of Law at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Crutchfield serves as the Notes and Comments Editor for the Tulsa Law Review, Master of Ceremonies for the Delta Theta Phi legal fraternity, and is a member of the Student Bar Association. He received his bachelor´s degree in history from the University of Oklahoma. After graduation, he will join the Tulsa law firm Doerner, Saunders, Daniel and Anderson, LLP as an associate.
Last year, the IAGA awarded a Shannon Bybee Scholarship Award to TU´s Nathan Mendenhall for his paper entitled "Tracking 25 U.S.C. Section 2719: IGRA Exceptions to Indian Gaming on Newly Acquired Lands."
The award honors the memory of Shannon Bybee, one of the IAGA founders, who had a distinguished career as a gaming attorney, state gaming regulator, gaming industry executive and pioneering educator in casino operations and gaming law. The awards are made possible by a grant from International Game Technology, the world´s largest gaming device manufacturer.
The TU College of Law provides an academically rigorous, yet congenial atmosphere with opportunities for scholarship, leadership and faculty mentoring.
