Marriage Equality USA Los Angeles Chapter announces Town Hall
Co-organizer and Chapter Leader Geoff Scowcroft states the purpose, "is to let the community speaks its mind on what happened in the recent election and to map a new direction for the Same-Sex Marriage Movement." While other Town Halls have been organized Scowcroft says, "The messages in these discussions have been controlled by the same organizations that planned the failed strategy for the campaign. The format has lacked the transparency that many in the community feel is essential for a clear understanding of the issues. It is time for an open forum for our community to discuss what has happened, so that we can truly start the process of healing."
The format for the Town Hall will allow participants to share their feelings and comments whether positive or negative for the first hour. Community Leader's will be on hand to answer questions and help provide insight that the public might not have. The second half of the meeting will be a discussion of what direction the movement should take in the future.
It is requested that speakers limit their statements or questions to two minutes to allow multiple participants to share their point-of-view. A varied group of community leaders will be on hand to try to provide insight for and perspective.
A community area will be set up to allow other organizations to provide information and additional resources. Organizations that are interested in participating should contact the sponsors at ca-losangeles@marriageequality.org.
We are in need of volunteers that can help facilitate the event. Set up will start at 11am on the 7th. Volunteers are needed for set up, tear down and providing community information during the event. Volunteers should contact MEUSA's local Chapter Leaders, Geoff Scowcroft and Peter Wolf at ca-losangeles@marriageequality.org. We are also looking for individuals that would be interested in filming the event.
MEUSA is also looking for the donation of a video projector and 100-150 chairs to provide additional seating for the event.
